When the notary appears, Adina declares that there is no rush, regardless of the fact that the sergeant is leaving for war the following morning. Nemorino is so pleased with how the potion has worked he wants to buy another but doesn´t have the money to pay Dulcamara. So he enlists himself in the army and with the money he receives buys another bottle of potion. Adina´s feelings for Nemorino become stronger and stronger, heightened by his lack of interest and eagerness to go to war.
Meanwhile Nemorino becomes even more aloof as he truly believes in the effects of the potion. He has even noticed a tear in Adina´s eye and begins to sing in the style of bel canto (beautiful song) the now famous "A furtive tear".
Nemorino is astounded at the effects of the potion; all of the young women are fighting over him. But they have found out (before he himself knows) that his uncle has died and left him a vast fortune. Finally Adina, who does not know anything about Nemorino's recent good fortune, can no longer stand by in the sidelines.
She buys Nemorino's freedom from the army so he does not have to go to war and throws herself into his arms. Belcore is quickly consoled and the healer is doing the best business of his life, as now all of the villagers want to own some of this extraordinary love potion.
